Chennai Super Kings win IPL 2021: Well done CSK, a great win and what can you say about MS Dhoni – David Warner

Chennai Super Kings’ road to redemption ended with a fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) title as they beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in Dubai to emerge champions once again after 2010, 2011 and 2018.

From not making it to the playoffs in IPL 2021 to lifting the title the next year, CSK turned their fortunes around once again under MS Dhoni with consistent performances throughout the duration of the 14th edition.

In the final, CSK posted 192 for 3 on the board thanks to a brilliant 86 from Faf du Plessis and then restricted KKR to 165 for 9 to win their third match in succession against the two-time champions.

If THIS is indeed Dhoni’s last game, what a finish for him. Winning the IPL, a title heavyweights have struggled to win, in his last hurrah will just be the icing on what has been a marvellous cake. Well Played MSD @msdhoni #CSK #CSKvsKKR #IPLFinal

Put into bat, Chennai amassed 192-3 with opener Faf du Plessis anchoring their innings with 86 off 59 balls. Ruturaj Gaikwad made 32, while Robin Uthappa (31) and Moeen Ali (37 not out) chipped in with useful cameos.

Kolkata, led by England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan, got off to a flying start with a 91-run stand between openers Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer before wheels came off their innings and they finished on 165-9.

Morgan made four and only four Kolkata batsmen managed double digit scores. Shardul Thakur returned 3-38, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed 2-37 and took two stunning catches to hurt Kolkata.
